Taiwan Inflation Rises To 1.60%

(RTTNews) - Taiwan's consumer price inflation increased further in August to the highest level in four months, data released by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics showed on Friday.

The consumer price index climbed 1.60 percent year-on-year in August, faster than the 1.54 percent rise in July.

Food inflation accelerated to 3.18 percent in August from 2.91 percent in July, and the growth of housing costs rose slightly to 1.80 percent from 1.75 percent. Meanwhile, the decline in transportation and communication costs deepened to 1.34 percent from 0.89 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up a seasonally adjusted 0.12 percent in August versus a 0.24 increase in the prior month.
