Malaysian Industrial Production Growth Eases To 0.3%

(RTTNews) - Malaysia's industrial output growth moderated for the second straight month in May, figures from the Department of Statistics showed on Friday.

Industrial production rose 0.3 percent year-over-year in May, much slower than the 2.7 percent increase in the previous month. Moreover, this was the slowest growth in the current growth sequence that began in January 2024.

Among sectors, the annual growth in manufacturing eased to 2.8 percent in May from 5.6 percent in April. The decline in mining production deepened to 10.2 percent from 6.3 percent. Meanwhile, electricity production recovered 0.4 percent.

On a monthly basis, industrial output grew 1.1 percent in May, in contrast to an 8.0 percent sharp decline in April.
